Domain-Based Reader Grouping Without Open Registration Blocking
backlog

In Reader self-registration for a Mixed Knowledge Base, associating an email domain with a Reader Group currently requires configuring the domain as Allowed. This behavior enforces domain restrictions and prevents self-registration from all other domains.
This limitation makes it difficult to automatically group readers while still allowing open self-registration. The ask is for any other domains can self-register, but one specific domain needs to be added to a specific reader group.
Request to provide a configuration option to:
Assign readers to Reader Groups based on their email domain during self-registration
Allow Reader Group mapping to function independently of domain allow/block rules
This change would support scalable reader management in Mixed Knowledge Bases, enable customer-specific content visibility, and remove the need for manual reader assignment while preserving open self-registration.

Hi Closed Sturgeon
Thank you for sharing the requirement in detail.
We understand the need to keep self-registration open for all domains while automatically assigning readers from a specific email domain to a Reader Group. Currently, this isn’t supported due to the dependency between domain configuration and access control.
We will evaluate it for prioritization based on overall customer traction and demand. As we gather more signals and similar use cases, we’ll be in a better position to plan this into our roadmap.
Appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback. We’ll keep you informed if there’s movement on this.

Thanks for creating the feature request.
Yes, the feature request is to allow automatic grouping of self‑registered readers based on their email domain without blocking other domains, since the current domain‑based grouping forces other domain restrictions and makes reader management difficult.
It would be good if we have one feature within readers group to ask for grouping the similar domains.

This would be an awesome feature for us as well.
