Bulk Update Content Access for Reader Groups

Customer requested an option to bulk update content access for multiple reader groups at once. Currently, access needs to be updated individually for each group, which is time consuming when managing many groups. A bulk update option would help administrators manage reader group permissions more efficiently.

Thank you for sharing this request on behalf of customer. We would like to understand the underlying use case better to ensure we address the requirement effectively.
Managing content access across multiple reader groups can become operationally heavy when administrators handle a large number of groups. Currently, permissions must be configured group-by-group, which may be manageable for smaller setups but can create friction in larger environments.
However, in most implementations, reader groups are typically structured based on distinct access policies (for example: department-wise, region-wise, partner vs customer access, or subscription tiers). Because of this segmentation, administrators usually need granular control over permissions, where each group may require slightly different access configurations.
Introducing a bulk update across multiple reader groups raises a few considerations:
- Risk of unintended permission changes if access is modified for several groups simultaneously.
- Loss of granular control, especially when groups have different access requirements.
- Governance and audit complexity, since bulk changes could affect multiple user segments at once.
- In many cases, administrators only need to update a specific group’s permissions, rather than applying the same rule across several groups.
To evaluate this further, it would be helpful to understand:
- How many reader groups are typically managed in your setup?
- In what scenarios do you need to apply the same content access change to multiple groups simultaneously?
- How frequently does this need occur?
These insights will help us determine whether a bulk update capability would meaningfully improve administrative efficiency or if there are alternative improvements that could better address the workflow.
